Before starting the motor the decompression valve has to be opened by knob [1]. This allows a portion of the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber of the cylinder to escape through a throttling port [2] within the decompression valve. This reduces the pressure in the combusting chamber, easing starting of the motor and reducing wear and tear on the starter. The closing force [3] will be adjusted to the existent pressure to reach an optimum of closing performance. The valve closes automatically with the first ignition sequence. The height [4] is adjusted to the desired installation position.
